Swiss writer Alfred Bodenheimer reads from his crime novels and provides insights into his literary work. In the subsequent discussion, he talks with literary scholars Anna-Dorothea Ludewig (Moses Mendelssohn Center) and Ulrike Schneider (University of Potsdam) about writing contemporary crime literature. The event is held in cooperation with the Institute for Jewish Studies and Religious Studies at the University of Potsdam and the Moses Mendelssohn Center for European-Jewish Studies e.V. It is supported by the DFG project "Jewish Film Heritage." Alfred Bodenheimer, born in Basel in 1965, is a professor of Jewish Literature and Religious History at the University of Basel. He focuses on writing his novels during a few weeks each year—times when, as he says, a valve of creative energy opens. Often traveling between Switzerland and Israel, where his family lives, he sees himself as a commuter between two worlds, which sharpens his perspective on both countries and societies. This is a meeting with an extraordinary author who combines exciting crime literature with cultural and historical depth.
