Book reading with Thomas Hartwig. Two life designs. A great love. And a life that seeks answers. New York – at the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA), the Berlin filmmaker and screenwriter Ferdinand meets the young Judith. It is initially a misunderstanding when they encounter each other in front of the statue "The Kiss" by Auguste Rodin. However, Ferdinand soon discovers that Judith is the daughter of Holocaust survivors. For years, he has been preoccupied with the fates of those who left their homeland to escape the crimes of the Nazis and found refuge in the New World. Ferdinand and Judith quickly grow closer. During a first passionate vacation in Crete, their longing for a shared life intensifies – despite all the contradictions that become apparent in their characters. When Judith finally moves to Berlin, happiness seems complete. Yet the contradictions in their personalities, the handling of Judith's "heritage" as the daughter of Holocaust survivors and a Jew, as well as their differing expectations for their own lives, present them with significant challenges. How, they wonder, can love endure when so many oppositions must be overcome? Thomas Hartwig traces the path of a great love with the same meticulousness and passion that he has dedicated to the fate of the displaced and minorities in "Die Armenierin" and "Hoywoj."
