Hansel and Gretel Revival

In Axel Poike's new adaptation, Hansel and Gretel set off on their journey – out of their impoverished circumstances in the forest and into the big city, the place of their longings and hopes for indulgence. There, they encounter a sugary sweet witch with her overwhelming candy chocolate cake house, where many children have already suffered the fate of being frozen into gingerbread by the sugar of their wishes. Even though the children are warned along their way by many familiar figures from world literature: children must experience life for themselves. Poike's wicked witch is not a creaky, crunchy old lady, but a sugary sweet and breathtaking figure, just like her house. In our performance, Hansel and Gretel must reflect on their own ideas of sweet desires in order to ultimately come to the realization: behind sweetness and beauty lies great danger right behind enjoyment.
