A chronicle with texts by Christa Wolf by Sascha Hawemann [Christa Wolf](http://www.hansottotheater.de/ensemble und team/christa-wolf/), a world-renowned author, was a committed citizen of the GDR – closely connected to the country in which she wrote, for which she fought, and to which she remained loyal despite her doubts. Everyday life and big questions, personal and political, myth and history: Christa Wolf transformed these dimensions of existence into a realm of possibility in her poetry. By confronting both societal and personal contradictions, she became a moral authority for many. Her texts also serve as a repository of memories of a vanished country. Thus, this theater evening intertwines the life of a poetess with a chronicle of the GDR. The century-long journey of the woman born in 1929 oscillates between beginnings and farewells, between hope and disillusionment. From an initially childishly enthusiastic Nazi supporter, she becomes a convinced anti-fascist who believes in socialism. However, later in the oppressive era, she must recognize that the repressive, male-dominated power structures of real-existing socialism destroy her utopia. Because she values sincerity, she questions all prescribed certainties – and discovers the strength of a subjective, female perspective on the world. The power of the common good and kindness as an alternative to capital, competition, consumption, and the Cold War. As a loyal dissident, she resists – as best as she can. The staging is a visually striking, kaleidoscopically shimmering, and also musical mosaic of scenes drawn from Christa Wolf's texts and fragments of GDR history. It addresses dreams, guilt, utopias, literature, love, politics, illness, pain, friendship, depression, stars and shows of the GDR, dancing, drinking, and hope.
