Jens, a construction worker in his mid-twenties, and Sonja, a saleswoman, are in love, get married, and have their own apartment. When Sonja has a child, she gives up her job. After some time, she feels under-stimulated and isolated at home. She wants to work again, but Jens is strictly against it, as it does not align with his vision of a harmonious family life, which he had to forgo as a child. Sonja feels patronized, and the tensions increase.
