Berlin - Corner Schönhauser

The VHS presents 7 film classics. Through the selected DEFA films from the state film production of the GDR, recent German history (1946-1990) and the influence of GDR politics on film, culture, and society are depicted. 2nd Period: Manifestation of the Party Line (1953 to 1960) Berlin - Corner Schönhauser... (Directed by: Gerhard Klein, GDR 1957) Group portrait of a handful of "Halbstarke" (young delinquents) who meet daily under the elevated train bridge on Schönhauser Allee. Each of the boys has different reasons for escaping the stifling confines of their parental homes. Half out of protest, half out of boredom, they rebel against the rules of coexistence. They listen to music, argue with passersby, and commit minor offenses. When Dieter and "Kohle" - two of the youths - flee to the West due to alleged manslaughter, they are interned in a home. There, "Kohle" loses his life. Dieter returns to East Berlin, reformed, and promises to lead a responsible life from now on.
