On the 300th birthday of the Prince of Rheinsberg Written and read by Frank Matthus Prince Heinrich lived for 40 years in Rheinsberg, always in the shadow of his famous brother Frederick the Great. In his Rheinsberg paradise, Heinrich not only had plenty of time to reflect on his unfulfilled life, but he also made music in the castle theater, wrote, and directed operas. Frank Matthus addresses this circumstance in his piece "Iphigenia in Tauris or Prince Heinrich Directs an Opera." The prince's court must participate in the performance – and of course, it is less about staging than about reflecting on life… The text was originally created in 2002 for the 200th anniversary of the prince's death and was premiered at that time by Angelica Domröse and singers from the Chamber Opera of Rheinsberg. From the 200th anniversary of his death, it has now – 24 years later – become the 300th birthday. Not only is the prince getting older. He is certainly a personality worth remembering. At the suggestion of the Foundation of Palaces and Gardens, Frank Matthus will bring his text to life again and read it both in the Mirror Hall in Rheinsberg and in the Temnitz Church.
