SILK ROAD - Traveling through Uzbekistan with a VW Bus

The ancient Silk Road uniquely combines adventure, wanderlust, and the mystical secrets of the Orient. Even the legendary Marco Polo traveled this route, and numerous stories and myths are intertwined with it. In August 2019, Conny Schefter and Frank Moerke set off in their VW bus, following in the footsteps of the old traders and adventurers eastward to Uzbekistan. Their journey first took them through Russia and then across the endless steppes and desert landscapes of Kazakhstan. In Uzbekistan, they encountered warm and open-hearted people and discovered the splendor of historic cities like Khiva, Bukhara, and Samarkand. They traversed the desert region where the Aral Sea once provided a vital source of life for the people. The two experienced the warm hospitality of the Uzbeks, attended a wedding, and enjoyed quiet moments in the seclusion of the Kyzylkum Desert.
