Thomas Mecklenburg presents a fascinating visual journey to the most impressive places and cultural treasures of China. The trip leads to breathtaking views where modern glass skyscrapers stand alongside ancient temples. The images reflect both turbo-capitalism in the context of communism and the dreamlike landscapes. They showcase the contrasts between traditional Chinese medicine and the ubiquitous obsession with smartphones, Zen meditation and bodybuilding in senior parks. The journey also includes visits to the Terracotta Army, the Great Wall of China, and encounters with old Shaolin masters. Chinese culinary culture is represented not only by the famous Peking duck but also, and especially, by street food from hot pots and often by "food that is still moving." The presentation offers a deep insight into a fascinating and multifaceted country. Thomas Mecklenburg, originally from Brandenburg, now lives and works as a medical educator in Berlin. However, his second home is in the countries of Asia, which he traverses time and again with open eyes and his camera. With the fall of the Berlin Wall, he embarked on his first major overland journey to Egypt, marking the beginning of his passion for travel. Since then, he has traveled frequently, preferring to explore on his own and using public transport or hitchhiking. Overnight stays often happen spontaneously and unexpectedly. Mecklenburg not only reports on the scenic and cultural treasures but also on the people and their daily lives. During his numerous travels through Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, India, Myanmar, Thailand, and China, he has been overwhelmed by the diversity of Asia and has embraced both the landscapes and the people in his heart.
