Norbert Bolz: Back to Normality

For Norbert Bolz, normal is what is taken for granted and does not have to be renegotiated or mandated from above time and again. It is what unites society, regardless of income or status, and does not divide it. The focus of the evening is his current book "Back to Normality," in which Bolz critically examines the state of our present. He describes a society that is caught between radical demands, moral activism, and cultural insecurity. Normality – that which connects, provides orientation, and enables collective action – is increasingly under pressure. Bolz advocates for a return to moderation, reason, and the tried and true, without becoming nostalgic. Rather, he illustrates how a stable center of our society can be newly strengthened, while also targeting the left-liberal elites in politics and media. The lecture invites attendees to better understand the overarching themes of our time and to engage in conversation about them.
