A small hospital in the GDR at the end of the 1960s. Dr. Heiner Sommer comes here to complete his specialist training as a surgeon. With great enthusiasm, he tries to live up to his ideals in the daily routine of the clinic. However, reconciling theory and practice proves to be a conflict-ridden learning process.
