January 27 has been a nationwide day of remembrance since 1996, honoring the victims of National Socialism each year. The detention and judicial site at Lindenstraße 54/55 was a central location of Nazi violence in Potsdam. Following the official commemoration at 3 PM in the courtyard of the Lindenstraße memorial, Alexander Bandilla will read from the book "Die Jacobsleiter" by Jacob Shepetinski (1920-2020) at 4 PM. Jacob Shepetinski survived the German massacres of the Jewish population in Belarus in 1941. After 1945, he worked in Germany as a translator for the Soviet secret service, which arrested him in 1946 on charges of treason. He was imprisoned at Lindenstraße and sentenced to ten years in prison.
