Workshop: "Stitch by Stitch" - Creative Repair of Textiles with Birgit Paschke

In the workshop "Stitch by Stitch," the creative repair of textiles is the focus. In the spirit of the Japanese Mottainai philosophy, which encourages not wasting anything, participants will learn how to enhance worn clothing—such as a pair of old jeans or a beloved T-shirt—using needle and thread. The foundation of the workshop is the traditional Sashiko technique, a hand-sewing and embroidery method based on simple stitches that allows for both functional repairs and decorative embellishments. Participants will work on their own brought textiles and develop individual designs that transform signs of wear into artistic elements. No prior knowledge is required; the focus is on the joy of independent repair, a mindful approach to materials, and a slowed-down, meditative working process. The workshop invites participants to rediscover the value of clothing and to make a conscious contribution to sustainable consumption behavior. Various fabric patches, needles, threads, and scissors will be provided.
