The exhibition "Down Below" by Cécile Lempert at the artothek addresses the multifaceted dimensions of memory and loss. Large-format paintings are based on historical photographs of the Dildilian family, an Armenian dynasty of photographers, and illuminate the profound emotional connections to familial origins and lost homelands. References to William Golding's novel "Fire Down Below" complement a narrative weave that reflects the uncertainties and developmental processes of a youthful personality on their life journey. Through the symbiosis of photographic templates and painterly sequences, Lempert unfolds visual narratives that encourage engagement with identity and existential transience.
