duo mélange - Music for Flute & Marimba

Almut Unger (flute) and Thomas Laukel (marimba) have formed a chamber music duo for over 25 years, which still remains a rarity. The ensemble's name is programmatic in multiple ways: the flute and the marimba, which is related to the xylophone, merge into an extraordinary sound mixture, and the works performed are a colorful blend of various music styles and eras. The ensemble's repertoire primarily consists of music that has been specifically arranged for this unique instrumentation: whether baroque works by Johann Sebastian Bach and Georg Philipp Telemann, classical sonatas by Joseph Haydn and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, melodies from operas by George Bizet and George Gershwin, piano pieces by Robert Schumann and Edvard Grieg, or even popular orchestral compositions by Dmitri Shostakovich and Leonard Bernstein – the compositions always reveal new charms through skillful adaptations and sensitive musical interpretation; however, the character of the originals is never lost.
