Snowberger Mountain Dispute Day 2026

With the Bergstreittag, the people of Schneeberg commemorate a special event in history each year - the successful wage struggles of the miners. At that time, the weekly wage of the miners was to be reduced from ten to nine groschen to offset rising production costs. However, the miners refused, protested, and left the city under waving banners. This strike had an impact and became known as the Bergstreittag in the city's history. The Schneeberger Bergstreittag always falls on July 22, the day of "Maria Magdalena," and commemorates the first documented wage strike of the Schneeberg miners in 1496. Highlights include the impressive mountain parade, the ceremonial mountain service at St. Wolfgang, and a concluding concert. The tradition is carefully maintained, and particularly the participants of the mountain parade contribute with their magnificent costumes to ensure that the miners' sense of identity remains alive to this day. This year, an even larger event is expected due to the 555th anniversary of the city and the accompanying festival week.
