Menzel Schäfer Thieme Team presents: "Matou – The Cat Who Doesn't Want to Be Human"

Puppet Theater based on the novel by Michael Köhlmeier What if a house cat, present at the most intimate conversations of humans, could understand human language? The cat Matou wanders through several centuries of world history in her seven cat lives, observing humans from an animal's perspective. She encounters celebrities like Andy Warhol and E. T. A. Hoffmann, comments on human activities with razor-sharp wit, and casually reflects on the great questions of humanity. Her view of humanity is critical yet also casually amused. Although she wants to understand what it means to be human, she absolutely does not want to be one herself – a philosophical evening about being human from a cat's perspective. [Pierre Schäfer](https://www.pierre-schaefer.de/) co-founded the theater Handgemenge in 1990 after studying at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Art in Berlin. He has a long-standing collaboration with puppeteer, author, and director Jochen Menzel, as well as with puppeteer [Veronika Thieme](https://veronikathieme.de/). Anna Menzel has been working as a freelance puppeteer since 2017. The production was developed by Veronika Thieme, Anna Menzel, and Pierre Schäfer together with director Jochen Menzel.
