In the Footsteps of Leopold von Buch – Tour to the Grave of the Naturalist - A Walk Through History, Memory, and Landscape in the Former Estate Park of Stolpe (Oder)

On the Open Day at the former castle of the von Buch family, the German Geological Society – Geological Association e.V. (DGGV) invites you to a guided tour of the Leopold von Buch burial site. Dr. Heinz-Gerd Röhling will explain the eventful history of the hereditary burial site, which has been owned by the DGGV since 2005, as well as the extensive restoration work that has been carried out. The listed hereditary burial site commemorates the naturalist Leopold von Buch (1774–1853), who was born in Stolpe and is considered one of the most significant geologists of his time and a co-founder of the German Geological Society. Established in the early 19th century by Adolf Friedrich von Buch (1733–1811), the listed hereditary burial site has undergone several transformations over time. It has had a particularly tumultuous history since the end of World War II and is now part of the historical estate park.
