They are family members, friends, acquaintances, club members, Doppelkopf players, tennis partners, or members of the volunteer fire department. And they have made a decision: This Federal Republic is no longer their republic. We know them well, as they not only sit in parliaments or talk shows, but also at kitchen or regulars' tables. They are like us, coming from the middle of society. Yet their revolt is leaning towards authoritarianism. Journalist and far-right extremism expert Andreas Speit analyzes in his new book "Authoritarian Rebellion" why anti-modern ideas dominate in broad segments of society, how these ideas are increasingly shifting to the right, and what consequences their accompanying radicalization has: questioning of reality, rejection of the rule of law, delegitimization of democracy. Andreas Speit is a graduate social economist, freelance journalist, publicist, and columnist for "taz Nord." He regularly writes contributions for "Freitag," "Blick nach rechts," and "jungle world." Speit is also the author and editor of various books on the topic of far-right extremism and has been recognized by the Medium magazine and the German Journalists' Association, among others.
