Special exhibition "50 Years of the Museum"

The Schönfels Castle Museum is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, reflecting on half a century of dedicated museum work. The anniversary exhibition traces the development of the institution since its founding and presents important milestones across six thematic islands. A special focus is placed on the personal perspectives of the people who have accompanied the museum over the decades. Three video interviews provide insights into memories, working methods, and the challenges of various periods. They illustrate how the museum responded to political and social upheavals and continually repositioned itself. The history of the Schönfels Castle Museum is also representative of many museums in rural areas and in East Germany, which serve as places of remembrance, cultural education, and exchange, and are constantly evolving. The anniversary exhibition invites visitors to discover five decades of vibrant museum history while sharpening the focus on the role of museums in the present and future.
