A winter natural spectacle: The awakening of the whooper swans at Schlabendorfer See In the cold season, Schlabendorfer See, located right next to the Heinz Sielmann Nature Experience Center, transforms into an impressive resting area for hundreds of whooper swans. When the first rays of sunlight hit the water, nature enthusiasts have the rare opportunity to watch these elegant guests from the north start their day. A guided observation from the in-house birdwatching platform allows for exclusive insights into the behavior of the whooper swans and other waterfowl in the early morning hours. New: In-depth insights through expert lecture For the first time this year, the morning experience will be complemented by a accompanying slide presentation in the atmospheric Crane Room. While hot drinks are available, the presentation provides solid background knowledge about the lifestyle and migration routes of the whooper swans. This combination of immediate nature experience and professional deepening offers a comprehensive access to the winter birdlife of the Lower Lusatian Ridge Nature Park. Notes for participants To enjoy the observation in the early, often frosty morning hours of the new year, very warm clothing and sturdy footwear are strongly recommended. Since the spots on the observation platform and in the Crane Room are limited, prior registration is required.
