Winter Holidays Between Feathered Coats and Research Spirit: The Holiday Program in Wanninchen

While geese, swans, and cranes often embark on long journeys to the south, the Lower Lusatian Land Ridge Nature Park serves as an important wintering and resting area for numerous guests from the north. The holiday program at the Heinz Sielmann Nature Experience Center in Wanninchen offers children aged 8 to 11 an exciting opportunity to playfully and creatively explore the lifestyles of these animals during the cold season.

Nature Observation and Research Spirit

The school-free time is used to actively explore the winter nature. Equipped with binoculars and spotting scopes, the participating young explorers can discover and identify various bird species in their habitats. Additionally, the research spirit is ignited through exciting experiments: Together, they will investigate the astonishing strategies birds use to withstand freezing temperatures and how they regulate their energy balance in winter.

Creativity and Community Experience

In addition to imparting knowledge, practical experiences take center stage. While crafting fat balls for birds, the children learn how humans can support the avian world. Varied games, a winter treasure hunt, and communal cooking strengthen social bonds. Just like flocks of birds, the communal experience is at the heart of these holiday days, encouraging a passionate exploration of nature even in winter.
