Special Excursion Six Lakes Minibus Tour: Ecological Change in the Post-Mining Landscape

Where heavy machinery extracted lignite for decades, the landscape of the Lower Lusatian Land Ridge has transformed into a valuable habitat. The Heinz Sielmann Nature Experience Center in Wanninchen invites nature enthusiasts to a special discovery tour by minibus. Along the large post-mining lakes, participants will experience firsthand how the landscape regenerates on its own and how new habitats emerge step by step.

On this specialized excursion by minibus along the large post-mining lakes, staff from the Heinz Sielmann Foundation will impart in-depth knowledge about the ecological new beginning and the dynamics of natural development in this unique area.

Insights into Newly Created Habitats

The tour allows for detailed observation of the reclamation of flora and fauna through newly created ecological niches in the Lower Lusatian Land Ridge Nature Park. The formation and development of Sielmann's natural landscape in Wanninchen will also be explained. The focus of the tour is on experiencing the holistic development of the landscape, understanding the challenges faced by local wildlife and plant life, and identifying which species have newly settled or returned to the area.

Methodology: Equipped with high-quality binoculars and spotting scopes, participants will learn how to observe animals in their natural environment mindfully and without disturbance. The imparting of observational skills and ecological expertise is at the center of this five-hour tour.

Registration: Due to limited seats in the minibus, registration is required. This initiative is funded by the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Climate Protection (MLUK) of the State of Brandenburg.
