Book reading at the city library: "Tabakpech"

The long-time journalist Eva-Maria Weyer will present her first novel "Tabakpech" on February 7, 2026. The book tells the story of times of upheaval during World War II, the LPG economy in East Germany, the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the fate of the people in the lower Oder Valley, which is shaped by tobacco and tradition. At the center of the family story is the farmer's wife Elfie, who sacrifices her dreams of a career as a singer for a life in tobacco country. Eva-Maria Weyer skillfully takes readers and listeners back to the past of the people in her region with ease and a fairy-tale-like narrative style.
