Juliana Kálnay reads from her debut novel and current work project.

The author Juliana Kálnay, awarded the ZDF-aspekte Literature Prize and the Friedrich Hebbel Prize, is a fellow of the Spreewald Literature Fellowship 2025/26. During her residency, she invites the public to four readings in February at the literary salon of the Bleiche Resort & Spa Hotel. Kálnay gained recognition in 2017 with her debut novel "A Short Chronicle of Gradual Disappearance" (published by Klaus Wagenbach). The novel presents a multi-voiced panorama of a house, balancing between surreal metamorphosis and precise observations of everyday life – a highly regarded prose debut in contemporary German-language literature. The author lives in Cologne and teaches creative writing at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne. In Burg, Kálnay will read from her debut work on two evenings. On two additional dates, she will present excerpts from a current, unpublished project she is working on during her residency, as well as the publication "The City is Not the City." The reading series combines readings with workshop insights and offers a literary snapshot between a completed book and an emerging text.
