The Fabulous World of Butterflies: In Pursuit of the Flying Jewels
A butterfly in flight is often a brief, fleeting moment of happiness. Yet behind these delicate creatures lies a fascinating story full of transformations and adaptations. On Saturday, June 6, 2026, the Heinz Sielmann Nature Experience Center in Wanninchen offers the opportunity to dive deeper into the lives of native butterflies and to expand one's knowledge of species in a well-founded way.
Contents of the Expert Excursion:
Participants embark on a journey of discovery that combines knowledge and nature observation:
The Wonder of Transformation: At the beginning, participants will gain insights into the amazing life cycle—from caterpillar to fully grown butterfly. The biological background of this transformation, as well as the systematics of native insects, will be explained.
Field Observation: During a tour of the outdoor area, the delicate creatures can be observed up close. Participants will learn to identify different species confidently and to track their flight and behavior with a trained eye.
Ecology and Habitats: Butterflies depend on specific food plants and structures. The excursion will convey how the natural landscape of Lusatia is home to these species and what conservation measures are necessary to maintain their populations. This event aims to specifically enhance knowledge about ecological relationships and to train the ability for mindful nature observation.
