Serge has bought a monochrome oil painting, white with white stripes. And expensive, really expensive. This painting ignites a dispute among three friends. Serge is enthusiastic about the artwork, his friend Marc thinks it’s just “shit,” while Yvan doesn’t want to take a stance to avoid upsetting his friends. Deep rifts open up between the men, and their long-standing close relationship suddenly comes into question. The painting serves as a catalyst through which the author analyzes, in a very subtle and psychologically nuanced way, the situation of the three men, their feelings, their states of mind, their friendship, and their past existence in a witty and comical manner.
