The Magic of Colors – from Red Ochre to the Latest Blue "YInMn-blue" is the title of the new special exhibition at the Pharmacy Museum in Cottbus. The first plants emerged about 400 million years ago, creating a colorful world. Even in the Stone Age, people used red stone blocks for painting skin and hair, as well as for cave paintings. Nowadays, artists secure exclusive color rights for sole use with the help of their wealth. Did you know that a person can see up to 1 million different shades? But: No light, no color! Colors are a matter of perception. Light passes through the retina of the eye, and the brain interprets the corresponding colors. Through mixing, we see the entire spectrum. Thus, colors are created in the mind. Isaac Newton was the first to discover the refraction of light. His discovery turned colors into a natural science. For many centuries, pharmacists also traded in colors and pigments. Their knowledge of the dangers of these substances was highly sought after.
