Family Summer Adventure - Research Journey with the Solar Explorer

Deep blue stretches before us the Werbellinsee, one of the largest and clearest lakes in Brandenburg. Sails glimmer in the distance, and a gray heron glides by with a leisurely flap of its wings. Hidden beneath the surface lie the wrecks of historic ships. From Altenhof, we board the Solar Explorer for an exploratory trip. Our solar-powered catamaran glides almost silently over the water. During the one-hour introductory trip, we take a closer look at the lake – we scoop, microscope, take water and soil samples, or scan the area with binoculars from the working deck. Which bird of prey is circling over the forest? How can an entire ship be powered by the sun? What is the silver treasure of the Werbellinsee? And how much life is actually contained in a glass of water? Climate-friendly mobility, biodiversity protection, life in the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Schorfheide-Chorin, the ecology and history of a unique clear-water lake – all these topics come together on board the Solar Explorer. During the one-hour trip, you will be accompanied by our environmental education expert. You can use the provided equipment on board and explore the lake yourself. Climate-friendly mobility, biodiversity protection, life in the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Schorfheide-Chorin, the ecology and history of a unique clear-water lake – many topics converge on board the Solar Explorer. Our environmental education expert is also on board. Additionally, we have provided research-grade equipment for you on board. Under expert guidance, all young and old explorers can discover the lake themselves and experience it up close.
