5th Philharmonic Concert: Request Concert

Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Overture to "A Midsummer Night's Dream" op. 21 Max Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor op. 26 Antonín Dvořák Symphony No. 7 in D minor op. 70 Heroes by Choice: In this concert, the audience itself decided which musical figures would shape the evening. Two works were chosen that bring the season's motto "Heroes and the Fantastic" to life in their own unique way. Mendelssohn's Overture to "A Midsummer Night's Dream" opens a world of shimmering light, whispering fairies, and subtle irony – music that hovers between dream and reality. In contrast, Max Bruch's Violin Concerto in G minor op. 26 tells of longing, passion, and radiant innerness. Antje Weithaas, one of the most impressive violinists of our time, gives it that unmistakable tone between strength and transparency, which shapes truth from emotion. For the finale, Dvořák's 7th Symphony in D minor op. 70 will be performed – a symphonic drama full of passion and a spirit of departure, where darkness and light intertwine. Under the direction of GMD Alexander Merzyn, an evening is created that the audience has helped shape – a play of choice, expectation, and resonance.
