Discover exciting topics related to nature, biodiversity, and sustainable action in our new webinar series – compact, practical, and free of charge. Especially in our cities and villages, we need healthy trees that can cool their surroundings and bind fine dust in times of climate warming. But which trees will thrive in our environment in the future? Do we need new tree species for the new climate? Although this thought seems logical, there are other possibilities. Biologist, garden planner, and author Ulrike Aufderheide will show in this lecture why we do not have to forgo biodiversity-promoting native tree species. She poses the counter-question: We need trees, but what do the trees need? The answer to this question lies outside of what is visible to us, first in the roots of the trees and then in the great genetic diversity within our tree species. The vitality of a root system that can develop undisturbed from a seed lays the foundation for healthy tree growth. And with the new concept of "nurse beds," we can achieve genetically diverse and therefore resilient tree populations.
