Theater am Rand: Season opening with the Polish band Dikanda

The concerts of the Stettin world music band Dikanda are a fiery, emotion-filled journey through the Balkans, the Carpathians, the Orient, and Africa. The musicians are constantly searching for new forms of expression and draw inspiration from musical encounters, resulting in a stunning and bold richness of sound. The band's universal message is conveyed through traditional folk songs, but especially through their unique musical storytelling, which is delivered not only through sounds but also through seemingly nonsensical words – in a finely crafted language of emotions and heart – Dikandish, indeed. In their nearly 30-year history, the band has released eight albums and performed around 2,000 concerts worldwide, from the USA to Bangladesh, from Sweden to Morocco, and has won numerous awards.
