"My Life" – Stories and Miniatures by Anton Chekhov

On the occasion of the upcoming production of Chekhov's "The Cherry Orchard" at the Heckentheater Potsdam, a reading of some of his stories from the wealth of his short stories will set the tone for the Sanssouci Theater Summer. "The Cherry Orchard" is explicitly referred to as a 'comedy' by Chekhov, although the play is repeatedly misunderstood as a tragedy, much to the author's annoyance. The reading aims to present him as a prose author who, through the humorous, ironic, and often satirical portrayal of his contemporaries, reveals fundamental human traits that are experienced as both tragic and comedic. Following the reading, there will be a discussion with the director and participants, including Gundi-Anna Schick, Willi Händler, and Andreas Hueck.
