Vernissage Symmetry and Rhythm - Digital Collages in the Old School Barn

Repetitions confront us in the world at every turn. In reflections, the wave movement in water, the shell of a snail, the crystals in granite, the petals of a dahlia, or in the symmetry of a fern frond. What they all have in common is that new patterns and structures emerge from a kind of rhythmic repetition of almost always the same small elements. This fascinating approach of nature is the inspiration for my images, which typically consist of a single element that repeatedly forms new – sometimes unforeseen – structures and patterns. My images are not computer-generated or created with the help of mathematical formulas, but rather "hand-crafted" digital collages that find their starting point in analog processes such as analog photography and photograms. Thematically, I focus on the "small, perhaps not so special things" – this includes small flowers as well as rolls of toilet paper – and by processing them into collages, I bring them into focus and give them a new meaning.
