Thomas Brussig reads from his new, yet unpublished novel "2084 or The Invention of Happiness." No one had expected that the climate problem would be solved through pharmaceuticals. Thomas Brussig, born in Berlin in 1964, made his breakthrough in 1995 with "Heroes Like Us." This was followed by works such as "At the Shorter End of Sonnenallee" (1999), "How It Shines" (2004), and "You Won't Find This in Any Russian Film" (2015). His works have been translated into over 30 languages. Thomas Brussig is the only living German author to have reached a million-strong audience with one of his literary works, as well as with a film and a stage play. The Invention of Happiness describes a society that guarantees everyone a permanent state of happiness – and in which people take advantage of this guarantee. The consensus is overwhelming, the ecological footprint of the Happies is tiny, and the planet Earth is doing well. There seems to be only one person who refuses to accept this.
