81 years of liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp

On January 27, Potsdam commemorates the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp 81 years ago and honors the victims of World War II. At 3 PM, a memorial event will take place at the Lindenstraße memorial site, where Cultural Affairs Commissioner Thorsten Wiegel, memorial site director Maria Schultz, Jenny Pöller from the Women's Political Council of Brandenburg, and Rabbi Ariel Kirzon will speak. The event will be hosted by Thomas Götz from the "Lindenstraße 54" support association. Musical accompaniment will be provided by the Geltow trombone choir. Following this, there will be a reading of "The Jacob's Ladder" by Jacob Shepetinski (1920 – 2020). At 4:30 PM, there will be a wreath-laying ceremony at Willi-Frohwein-Platz, and at 5 PM, another memorial event will take place at the Thalia Cinema, involving the Waldorf School of Potsdam. A film featuring concentration camp survivor Willi Frohwein will also be shown, and a discussion will explore different forms of remembrance. All events are open to the public.
