Am Pehlitzwerder 1, 16230 Pehlitz

January 25, 2026, Sunday, The Secrets of Pehlitzwerder

We want to hike on the Pehlitzwerder peninsula in Lake Parstein. The area has been inhabited since the Neolithic period, and we will seek out the witnesses of the past. The old and rare tree population of Pehlitzwerder is exceptional, having already fascinated Fontane. The oldest and most impressive lime tree is over 550 years old and was declared a national heritage tree in April 2023; the oldest oak is more than 500 years old. We will visit the many ancient trees, the bowl stone, and the remnants of the Mariensee monastery, the predecessor of the Chorin monastery. Pehlitzwerder is protected as an archaeological site and landscape. During the time of the monks, Pehlitzwerder was an island, which later became accessible by a causeway. For the past 52 years, a small asphalt road has led to the nature and family campsite.

Meeting point: 11:00 AM at the visitor parking lot at the nature and family campsite Pehlitzwerder, 16230 Chorin, OT Pehlitz. Directions: from Chorin, behind Pehlitz (OT of Brodowin), entrance on the left; from Parstein, entrance on the right before Pehlitz. Duration: approximately 2.5 hours.

Attention: Due to the active wild boars on Pehlitzwerder, sturdy shoes are recommended. Registration is possible at 03344-3002881, email orland@naturfreunde.de, or WhatsApp 0160-7500540. Participation fees: Adults 5 euros, reduced for children, Nature Friends, and holders of Freienwalde spa cards 2.50 euros; members of the Nature Friends Oberbarnim-Oderland e.V. and children with a Brandenburg family pass are free.
