Matinee The 12 Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic

A dozen cellos together on stage: This unusual sight allows for what would hardly work as well with any other group of instruments. The third largest representatives of the string family ascend to high registers while simultaneously providing a deep foundation, offering a rich variety of timbres and even serving as a rhythm section with their percussive playing. As diverse as the musical possibilities are, so too is their stylistic application – a range that spans from Klengel's "Hymnus," the founding piece of the ensemble, through French chansons to jazz of American origin and equally arranged film music, all showcased in the matinee on the final festival day of 2026.
