Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra I

Johannes Brahms was only 26 when he performed the premiere of his Piano Concerto in D minor at the Royal Court Theatre in Hanover. He infused this, in his own words, "great and heavy" concerto with both youthful energy and the dramas of his life, which has fascinated and thrilled the most significant pianists for nearly 150 years. It is, of course, also one of the favorite pieces for Rudolf Buchbinder, who draws out the great emotions as well as the lyrical and rhapsodic moments. Lahav Shani, himself an outstanding pianist, took over as the youngest chief conductor in the 100-year history of the orchestra in September 2018, leading the renowned Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. Ludwig van Beethoven's "Eroica" provides a truly "heroic" conclusion to this first of two impressive concert evenings featuring guests from the Netherlands. Note: The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra unfortunately had to cancel its participation in this concert for organizational reasons. We are pleased that the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra has taken over the guest performance in Grafenegg with a modified program.
