"The Dead City"

"The Dead City" tells the story of Paul, who mourns his deceased wife Marie, falls in love with her likeness Marietta, and struggles with the past and the future: For Rudolf Buchbinder and countless lovers of the genre, Erich Wolfgang Korngold's opera is considered one of the highlights of music history. The richly orchestrated score and evergreen pieces such as the duet "Glück, das mir verblieb" and the baritone aria "Mein Sehnen, mein Wähnen" have been captivating audiences since the double premiere in 1920 in Hamburg and Cologne.
