The Grein Years of Teacher Ludwig Commenda from 1892-1906 Two large-format, handwritten family chronicles, recently discovered in a private archive, contain a local historical treasure. In more than 90 pages, the author of the "Illustrated Travel Guide through the Machland," chairman of the German Gymnastics Association, choir master of the Grein Liederkranz, and secretary of the FF Grein, autobiographically describes civic life in Grein around 1900. Commenda is a contemporary witness to the construction of the water pipeline, the opening of the Danube riverbank railway, the honeymoon of Duke Carl Eduard of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, and the massive floods at the end of the 19th century. Complemented by newspaper articles, letters, club and school chronicles, and well-illustrated with contemporary photos from various private archives, a local time travel has emerged, to which we warmly invite you. Christian Hochgatterer and Christoph Lettner bring Grein's local history back to life with this scenic reading. Voluntary donations.
