My hometown Fürstenau – Fellow citizens share their stories

The event series "My Hometown Fürstenau – Citizens Share Their Stories" invites people from Fürstenau and the surrounding communities, such as Settrup or Bippen, to share their personal life stories. It doesn’t matter whether one has lived here forever or has just recently moved in, whether young or old, born here or coming from another country – every story is welcome. The focus is on childhood memories, family, love, home, but also on difficult times and the feeling of having arrived in Fürstenau or still being in search of it. These narratives show how diverse life is in our region, which is shaped by history but also oriented towards the future. Often, we know far too little about each other, even though we live door to door. This is where the series comes in: Through storytelling and listening, bridges are built between generations, cultures, and people who might never have met otherwise. Those who share their stories open up; those who listen open their hearts. Thus, from many individual stories, a shared narrative of coexistence and diversity emerges. Because home is more than just a place – it is a feeling that arises when people feel seen and heard. "My Hometown Fürstenau" provides space for these stories and thus gives the future of our town a human face. The series shows that home is not a rigid concept, but a lived history, a changing identity that primarily arises through encounters. Every person, whether a refugee, a child of guest workers, a returnee, or a local, contributes an important facet to this shared narrative.
