Lecture by Rainer G. Gellermann At the beginning of the 20th century, the Buchler chemical factory in Braunschweig was the first in the world to produce products that purposefully utilized the newly discovered radioactivity. Almost exactly 100 years later, the final remediation work began on the site of this factory, which had been vacant for years. As a witness who was allowed to plan and accompany the radiation protection aspects of the remediation work, the speaker will illuminate the beginning and end of this highly fascinating industrial history, which also had additional locations in Northern Germany.
