BUND invites you to discuss environmental topics with the lecture "A Dive into the Future – What Cold-Water Corals Tell Us About the Sea of Tomorrow." The BUND Unterweser invites you to an open chat on Thursday, February 26, 2026, from 6 PM to 8 PM at the National Park House Wurster North Sea, supported by BUND and the municipality. Marine biologist Dr. Jürgen Laudien from the Alfred Wegener Institute will take you into the fascinating world of little-researched cold-water corals and their ecosystems. With impressive underwater footage from Patagonian fjords, he will provide exciting insights into his research work. The lecture will reveal what these special habitats tell us about future environmental conditions. Additionally, it will explain how cold-water corals and fjord ecosystems respond to climate change and provide insights into ongoing research. After the lecture, Dr. Jürgen Laudien and Dr. Matthias Mertzen, head of the National Park House Wurster North Sea, will discuss climate change in the North Sea and its impact on wildlife with the participants. Besides the lecture topic, guests can also address what concerns them from a nature and environmental perspective. Furthermore, BUND would like to consider with the participants how environmental improvements can be achieved in the region and how they can contribute to this effort.
