Feathers, Beak, Super Eyes - Wadden Sea - Detectives Investigate Birds

Birds can be observed daily in our surroundings, whether in the city, in the countryside, or by the water. The ability to take to the air and fly of their own accord is perhaps the most well-known characteristic of birds, which has developed over millions of years through extremely lightweight bones, feathers, and a sophisticated respiratory system. But they also surpass us humans in many areas: birds are capable of perceiving UV light, see colors much more intensely, and can spot the smallest details even from great heights. Additionally, they possess a unique sense of orientation both day and night, and although they only have their beaks, these are finely tuned instruments perfectly adapted to their specific food sources. With curiosity and fun, we will explore the special characteristics of birds together in our large bird exhibition and in the in-house laboratory of the Wadden Sea Visitor Center at South Beach.
