The tour leads from the Elbe Valley to the Polenztal near Hohnstein, a picturesque little town high above the valley. Here, we embark on a geological quest around Hohnstein Castle along the Painter's Way (parts of stages 2 & 3). On this day hike, we discover dark, quiet caves, gorges, and wide vistas while learning more about the formation of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains and strange weathering patterns. During this quest, we also sense the close connection between nature and art that captivated the painters of the Romantic era. From Rathen train station to Hohnstein is approximately 12 km, taking 5 to 6 hours. Good basic fitness, sturdy footwear, and weatherproof clothing are required. Please bring your own provisions. There are dining options in Hohnstein Castle and Rathen.
