Max Loeb García and Dos Almas Vinzenz Wieg clarinet, Martina Stoye accordion, Guido Richarts double bass and vocals, Stephan Salewski drums and percussion, Max Loeb García guitar, vocals, and composition. A concert that seems strangely familiar despite the encounter with the unknown. Max Loeb García takes the audience on a musical journey to South America, to his mother, his grandmother, and his great-grandmother. Max's German-Jewish ancestors emigrated to Colombia shortly after the start of World War II. Although they had to endure anti-Semitic hostility even in remote villages where they believed they had found a new home, they continued to live Jewish traditions. In 1999, Max Loeb García returned to Germany as the first family member. Accompanied by the wonderful band Dos Almas, the musician takes us in the program "Babeln" to the rhythms of his childhood in the villages of Colombia, to the Babylonian coexistence of German, Spanish, and Yiddish, to the melodies of his family. Stories and images complement this musical journey and lead us to remote landscapes of the soul. The temperament, melancholy, and vibrancy of Jewish and Colombian culture come together organically. The music that emerges may seem unusual, yet it is as familiar as the stories behind it.
