13th National Day of Archives 2026 under the motto "Old Home - New Home"

An opportunity to get to know the archive as well as to browse and marvel. On the weekend of March 1st, numerous archives across the country will open their doors and participate in the now 13th nationwide "Day of Archives 2026." As always, the City Archive of Prenzlau will also be involved. This year's archive day is themed "Old Homeland - New Homeland." In line with the theme, the history of the Volga Germans will be presented, who fled from the Soviet Union in 1929 and briefly found refuge here in Prenzlau – in the red barracks – before moving on to Canada, Brazil, and Paraguay. Interested guests can look forward to a small exhibition as well as a lecture by Dr. Dieter Neuendorf on the history of the Volga Germans in Prenzlau in 1929/30. In the writing room, visitors can once again try their hand at writing in the German Kurrent script and search for a rarity or two in the browsing corner. Guided tours of the archive magazine will also be offered again.
