On the occasion of Max Silberberg's birthday, a commemorative plaque for Max Silberberg will be unveiled on February 27, 2026, at 1 PM at his former birthplace (Karl-Marx-Straße 15, 16816 Neuruppin). In front of the "Magnet Kaufhaus," a plaque will be installed to honor the Jewish merchant and art collector Max Silberberg, who was born in Neuruppin, following a decision by the city council (Dr.-Nr. 2025/26). He was taken from Breslau by the Nazis to Theresienstadt and murdered in Auschwitz. This plaque aims to permanently draw attention to this fate. Johannes Bunk and Prof. Dr. Günter Hommel have advocated for the visibility of this remarkable biography and will be present at the event. Mayor Ruhle will deliver a greeting. To mark the occasion, the exhibition "Light and Dark" by Grigory Berstein: Homage to Max Silberberg will be shown at the Kunstraum Neuruppin. Grigory Berstein, who lives in Cologne and was born in Moscow, has repeatedly engaged with the history of his family and the Holocaust in his art. Thus, it was natural for him to create an artistic tribute in the form of an entire exhibition dedicated to the art collector Max Silberberg, who was born in Neuruppin in 1878.
