Gallery at the Kietz: 7 + 1 painting by the sea

For 20 years, seven artists selected by a jury have been meeting in Heringsdorf to paint en plein air by the Baltic Sea. Under the motto "7 Paint by the Sea," the participants have been inspired by the landscape and atmosphere of Usedom Island for many years. Following the plein air week, the paintings created during this time will be exhibited at the Museum Villa Irmgard/Heringsdorf and in a gallery in Denmark, with results from 2025 also being shown in Schwedt/Oder and Templin. The artists had complete freedom in choosing their motifs and artistic execution. The only requirement was to paint en plein air – that is, to work outdoors. Thus, in May 2025, eight painters with easels, brushes, and colors roamed around Heringsdorf, capturing their impressions on canvas and paper. For last year's artist meeting, Wolfram Schubert was nominated as a special guest for the plein air event for the first time. He had previously participated in the Baltic Sea plein air in 2009 and 2014 and was the oldest painter in the team at 98 years old. The other participants of the plein air are Gineke Zicken (NL), Matthias Schilling (D), Pat Noser (CH), Matvey Slavin (D/DK), Susanne Hoppe (D), Henrik Scheel Andersen (DK), and Sigurd Wendland (D), the initiator and artistic director of the project. The opening of the exhibition "7+1 Paint by the Sea" in Schwedt/Oder will take place on January 31, 2026, at 3 PM in the Wintergalerie am Kietz. Sigurd Wendland will give introductory words, and the musical accompaniment for the event will be provided by Julian Lentz on the piano.
